Is Jet Really Looking for a Wal-Mart Acquisition?Chris
It has been exactly one year since Jet.com launched and they’ve made one of the biggest splashes in the ecommerce market since Amazon. They continue to grow and attract investors under CEO Marc Lore, who has some great accomplishments under his belt to say the least. As of now, the site has raised over $800M and is adding close to 350,000 customers per month.
All in all, the Jet website does in fact offer a cleaner and more user-friendly experience versus the likes of Amazon and Walmart.com. The one setback is the fact that Jet lacks the depth of content, such as videos/TV shows. However, many studies have been conducted and it’s been determined that from an on average pricing standpoint, Jet is on par with Amazon and other major online retailers.
So what is the situation with Jet.com and their future? Marc Lore has a long history of ecommerce and is well aware that price alone will not ensure long-term success for Jet. Some are saying that he built Jet.com with a quick acquisition in mind, and specifically speaking acquiring Walmart. Walmart is being dragged down by Amazon and is desperate to find a way to good way to compete. Meanwhile, Jet started from the bottom and has created itself a model of unparalleled logistic efficiency. There’s now way of predicting the future, so we’ll just have to wait and see how bold Marc Lore truly is.
