Search engine optimization is an art and a science. Presence in search results is crucial to brand awareness. The quick-search mentality of mobile consumers, SEO is vital to driving traffic to your site and not to your competitors. Natural listings are not charged advertising fees for results. This making it one of the top-performing digital marketing channels for almost all e-commerce businesses. Also making SEO one of the cheapest marketing channels.
Google, Yahoo, and Bing are three of the top four most trafficked websites in the U.S. according to comScore. This practice of optimizing your search-engine presence to produce traffic to your site can also be called natural or organic search. SEO needs to involve all of the organization from product planning, to customer support, to user experience and design.
Although natural search is one of the least expensive channels, it can still be difficult, as Google likes to add boxes for Products and then their Advertised searches. The more balanced your marketing mix among various channels the less risk you leave for natural search to drive your business. The lower natural search performance percentage, the more opportunity you will allow for your other channels to perform and mature. If you do rely on SEO it can be dangerous as you are relying for one algorithm, which could in turn kill your revenue stream. However it is necessary as it shows that SEO drives traffic anywhere from 15%-20%.
