Wal-Mart to Prevail For Back-To-SchoolHayley Smith
The NPD analyzed market research and predicted that Wal-Mart will make twice as much in online sales when compared to Amazon this Back-To-School season. This projection is based on Wal-Mart’s purchase of Jet.com in 2016, which has allowed them to gain experience in the ecommerce world. The acquisition added hundreds of thousands of new customers who will be eager to test out this marketplace during the busy shopping season.
Back to school is the second largest shopping season for Americans. Teachers have supply lists, parents have budgets, and hardly anyone has enough time to get it all done before the first day. When Wal-Mart and Jet.com merged together, they expanded their product by 14 million items in just 1 year. Wal-Mart is considered the underdog in the ecommerce world, so naturally they are very competitive. They’re very persistent in making sure they can always offer their customers the lowest prices.
There will always be those buyers who prefer to shop in store just to get the process over with as quickly as possible. The advantage Wal-Mart has over Amazon is that their products are available in two places rather than just one. Customers can go check online for certain items that they are unable to find in the store. Having both a brick-and-mortar retail store as well as an online store increases Wal-Mart’s chances of winning the business.
The impatient shoppers will be on a mission to find the best bang for their buck. It looks like Wal-Mart and Jet.com are fully equipped to show up their competition and shake off the title as the “underdog” one shopping season at a time.
